Port Ludlow Artists’ League Meeting

Port Ludlow, WA

Members of Port Ludlow Artists’ League will enjoy a presentation by Winifred Whitfield, demonstrating the use of electronic painting software on Wednesday, January 19, at 1 p.m. at the Bay Club.  This software, specifically Corel Painter, is engineered to simulate the appearance of traditional paint medium and can produce very convincing results.

Winifred Demonstrated Corel Painter January 19th

Winifred Whitfield is a photo artist and uses this software to create the painterly portraits which she will display.  A new resident in this community, she is most known for her elegant heirloom portraits of women; she also does portrait restorations, and creates heirloom portraits of children, men, families and pets.  She says, “The image I create is a portrayal, a story reflecting the inner and outer beauty of my client; it is a piece of personal fine art.”

Winifred has always been an artist at heart, commencing oil painting in childhood. As an adult she traded her palette for a successful career as a vice president on Wall Street. Living in artist communities and frequenting New York City’s many art galleries and museums fanned the flame of her artistic spirit. After founding several successful businesses in the Northwest, such as financial advisor, llama breeder and wedding venue host, she discovered the possibilities held by digital photography. Blending her love of painting with her expert understanding and mastery of the computer, Winifred’s long dormant artistic spirit blossomed. Intimate Portraits for Women was born.

Winifred divides her time between New York and Washington, and conducts training workshops nationally and internationally. She is the owner of Winifred’s Portrait & Fine Art Gallery and schedules complimentary consultations for prospective clients both in her Port Ludlow home gallery and in her Poulsbo studio and gallery. See more of her work at WinifredsGallery.com. She can be reached with questions at 360.779.1375.

February 13, 2010

New York, New York

Reveal invited 60 guests from local shelters and organizations and extravagantly pampered women recovering from abuse and sex exploitation. Winifred Whitfield,  owner of Photos in New York  assisted by Owen Kassimer, owner of  Owen’s Photography provided photographic services at this event photographing every participating woman who desired one.  It was an amazing sight to see so many partners & volunteers enthusiastically show up with little sleep and in the early morning to set up, prep their stations & be ready to donate a day to service and provide premium products for the women that arrived.  It was touching to see the expressions as these women received their images printed on water color paper and in 11×14 mats – images which will be treasured forever.

It was truly a beautiful modern-day Cinderella story where women from all backgrounds and ages, received personal beauty consultation and ultimately, celebrated for their beauty and dignity and loved with no strings attached.  No images of these women will be shown in order to protect their privacy.

January 14  – 16th, 2010

London, England at the Hammersmith

Winifred Whitfield conducted 2 Master Classes at the Society for Wedding and Portrait Photographers in London. Winifred will discussed technical and non technical considerations of her manner of creating intimate portraits for women – idealized portraits as a woman wants to bee seen and remembered. This process begins with the initial phone call. She will focus on her strategies for creating trust and creating value as she moves into the requisite consultation phase and into the portrait session. During the portrait session, not only are lighting and flattering poses important, but the relationship with photographer and his/her ability to create an environment in which the woman feels honored, safe and is relaxed. Lighting and expression is very significant to this portraiture.  Patrick Ciatto will provide support to this presentation by discussing  camera and lighting fundamentals.

If you are photographing normal people and not models, this presentation is a must. Artistic enhancements and digital painting can then be applied to create an amazingly beautiful and powerful piece of personal art for your client and financial reward for you.

Winifred  will also serve as a  print judge in the portrait category.
