Description

Beginner to Intermediate User – 1 hour – (reference photo for this tutorial is included in Practice Photos available for download. )

This tutorial is designed to be easy to follow and easy to understand. The “beginner” phase of the tutorial,  is “blending painting.”  Brushes  used are included in any version of Corel Painter.  A beautiful “blending painting” is completed during this phase. However, Winifred decides to take it further – ultimately creating a more intermediate level painting.  Expressive brushes are selected from the Skip Allen brush collection Desert Oasis, a watercolor set which has been converted to cover brushes.  With these brushes she  “adds paint”, not blending, to the background, clothing and yes the hair – even colors.  Winifred challenges you to take your painting beyond the safety of painting only from information  in the photo and to become more expressive, and to expand your creativity.  This is an  excellent tutorial for a beginner or intermediate painter looking to loosen their strokes and to express greater creativity.

This tutorial uses and demonstrates simple techniques but it is comprehensive portrait painting tutorial. (Clip speed has been increased somewhat, in the painting brushstrokes, to save you from having to view hours of painting.)

The demonstration will include :

  1. Painting on layers  – painting on an empty layer using blending brushes,
  2. Skin is painted.
  3. Hair is painted.
  4. Facial features are painted.
  5. Clothing is painted.
  6. Additional paint color is then added to the basic painting in an expressive fashion for a more creative portrait painting.
  7. Adjustments are made to contrast and density.
