Scattered Grapes and Roses

Scattered Grapes and Roses 11×14 Oil Painting by Winifred Whitfield

I haven’t painted with a palette knife in quite a long time. I loved doing so. Of course the grapes were the most fun. Including grapes just popped into my head and I went with it. I can just hear you now. Don’t worry, I will do more – I love all of this texture!

    • Thank you Dee. So glad you like it and I truly love the grapes – easy, colorful and fun. I can’t wait to get something new started tomorrow.

    • Hi Nancy. So glad you like it. I enjoyed. At one point, I’d painted the flowers and the vase. The background was still blank. What to do?? Then I decided to use the highlights and shadows of the drape/background behind it to paint with bold blended palette knife strokes. That worked for me. I’ll do that again for sure.

  1. I have always loved the rich textures and color of your paintings when done with a palette knife. This painting even more so. The colors are so distinct and still the roses melt into their surrounding. So very well done. And you are right – you should do more with this technique. You only get better and better.
